Outdoor Glider Bench
If you are looking for a place to sit and relax in your outdoor space, an Outdoor Glider Bench will work in most places. We will look at several different styles and materials for you to make a better choice to make your decision. I did put one rocker in this post as I thought it would fit for some folks.
Look at the size differences in some of these gliders as you will have to decide on how big of a seating area it will take to let you relax with your significant other. Don’t go out and measure how wide she is, it will not turn out well for you.
Metal Love Seat Glider
This metal retro Love Seat Glider is finished with a choice of four colors (blue, green, red, and white). The UV resistant steel material is powder coated and will withstand the outdoor environment for years.
It is recommended that you have 2 people to assemble the glider, and set aside anywhere from one to two hours for assembly. If you get a scratch, you can use the included touch up paint to fix it.
The bench is 52 inches wide, 30.75 inches deep, and 33.25 inches high. The height of the seat is 14 inches. It weighs about 84 pounds. The weight capacity is 500 pounds for the two people.
Metal Sofa Glider
This Sofa glider will be a choice if you need more seating than the love seat glider and you do not want additional furniture. It will also be a nice addition to the Love Seat glider as you can match the color and style selections.
This bench will be slightly larger at 72 inches in width, the other dimensions will be the same. The wight will be slightly more at 118 pounds. Weight capacity is 750 pounds for the three people.
The only complaint about these gliders is that if you rock too far back the glider can overturn backward. This can be fixed by having the glider sit with its back to a wall or making sure that the occupants know this fact before rocking too big.
Eucalyptus Wood Love Seat Glider
This Love Seat Glider is made from plantation grown eucalyptus. This is a very hard wood that with little care will last a long time in the elements of the outdoors. It is finished in the color of teak without the extra price of the more expensive wood. Refinishing once a year will help the finish stay the same color. The stronger mortise and tenon joints with making this glider last a long time.
The glider is 46 inches long, 26 inches deep, and 36 inches high.
It will handle 250 to 300 pounds for sitting.
Resin Wicker Glider
This glider made of resin wicker will last a lifetime with little or no care. The aluminum frame will make this piece very stable compared to regular wicker furniture. The high back and comfortable seat area will make for many hours of sitting.
This glider can be ordered in three colors(Antique White, Chocolate, and Brown). This is part of a set that includes a Table, Chairs, Ottoman, Love Seat, and Sofa. Matching cushions can also be purchased for this set, they will allow the taller folks to sit more comfortably.
The glider is 50 inches wide, 27.5 inches deep and 36 inches tall.
A similar Chair Glider is 28 inches long, 28.5 inches deep, and 36.5 inches tall.
Oak Rocker Settee
This high-quality Oak Rocker is handmade in the USA. It is made from kiln-dried Appalachian white oak. It has mortise and tenon joints, it has a oil finish that will make it last in the harsh outdoor weather. The weather-resistant hardware will withstand rust for many years. This will be the piece that you will need if you do not like the look and feel of the gliders.
The rocker is 48 inches wide, 32 inches deep and 34 inches high
Options for your Glider
To make your sitting more enjoyable, cushions are available in many sizes and color styles. Taller people will like the extra legroom that cushions give. Your butt will like it too.
For when your glider is not in use, a weather cover will make it last for a very long time. Some covers are made just for this type of furniture.
If you are looking for extra seating for your outdoor area, the Bench Glider will be a more comfortable experience than a plain bench. The addition of the movement will help you get away for an extended time and relax in your outdoor space.
The only safety thing that was mentioned in researching these gliders was not to let small kids glide too big, as they tend to fall over backward. During normal operation, this will not be a problem.
A lot of these gliders are no longer available, for a newer post on gliders see my post here.

Thanks for reading,
Great ideas on outdoor appliances. I personally would rather be outside then indoors. All the benches you promote show to have a good structure and classic styles. The brick lights and wind chimes are items that I would purchase for my home. You show many items that would personalize anyone’s outdoor living area.
As my site is about building and maintaining your outdoor space, I will continue to spotlight items that will make your space more enjoyable.
Thank you for your review of all these very nice gliders. We have been debating on what type of bench sitting we should get for our patio. Regular bench sitting would not be comfortable for long periods, even with adequate cushions. I like the old-fashion gliders (wooden) but my wife likes the metal. We will definitely bookmark this site for more information on gliders as we continue to look for the best for our patio.
Make sure that you look at all of the differences in the materials. I prefer the resin Wicker, as it will last longer with the least amount of care. Cost could be more upfront, if you are looking long range it is the best of both worlds.
Thanks for this great post, one question that i do have is when you say it comes with some touch up paint, do you know how much you get ? also can you buy the paint from anywhere just in case you run out of the touch up paint that you are initially given ? How easy are these thing to assemble ? and can they be purchased in the UK at all. Many Thanks, Mark.
The touch up paint is small, once opened it most likely will have to go in the trash. Some nail polish or auto touch up paint will work with some testing for color. Assembly will be up to each persons ability, some are more inclined to put things together than others. If you follow directions well and can turn a screwdriver, this should be easy. Availability in other countries will need to be searched, as most of these vendors only ship to USA.
The two light green metal gliders remind me of a glider my family had in the 1950’s. How much do each of these gliders cost? The use of covers for your glider is a very good idea. Can wicker material become moldy and if so how could you clean something like that? How much weight can the Oak Rocker Settee handle? Do all of these gliders come fully assembled or not?
Cost of any items will change, see links for current pricing on any item. Any outside material can become moldy if not taken care of, soap and water will take care of any build up of residue that will lead to moldy conditions. The Settee can handle two regular size adults or about 300 pounds. These glider/rockers will need assembly, some will require two people to get it do correctly.
Great variety of seats. Very well detailed description on each item. Straight to the point, multiple products to choose from. Also I like The óptions that you provide for maintenance per each product. Keep it up.
I like the idea of wood rather than wicker or metal for my outdoor living area. I also like the Oak Rocker Settee but am looking for something more rustic and maybe made of logs.
We are planning on building an outdoor brick oven and fireplace and some rustic furniture, including a glider, would be a perfect fit.
Are you aware of any gliders that are made of logs? Better yet I like to build things and have the work shop to do it so a plan would even be better. Do you have plans available or where I can get them?
Have some log swings and furniture coming in the near future. Pleas check back for updates.
I enjoyed looking at different types of outdoor bench gliders. We are having a beautiful summer here in The Northwest area, and I love to sit outside and read as looking at greens. Currently, we have a cheap metal bench that we purchased from Target or something. I would love to upgrade it to something nicer.
I especially liked the Oak Rocker from your selections. It has a gentle and warm feel to it. Do you think it may get moldy though if we don’t take it inside during the long wet winter over here? Or, is it going to be OK as long as we leave it under a cover?
Keeping it covered and cleaning it with soap and water will be the best care you can give it. Mold grows when an item is left wet and stored out of the sun. Leaving it under a covered area and not taking proper care of it will produce mold very quickly.
Great review, I especially like that you focused on long-lasting and weather-proof gliders – it is probably one of the most important characteristics of outdoor furniture and the one I am looking at first, when I go for such things. All the gliders you mentioned also look very nice and cozy 🙂
Adding cushions to your glider will make it more comfortable. Adding a weather cover will make it last many more seasons.
I love your glider designs. I wanted to have that eucalyptus wood love seat gilder. I’ll place it in my garden so it would look classy. It will be a great place for visitors, small talks, and conversations. I will also recommend this site to my friends. Thanks for sharing chris
Thanks for recommending my site to your friends. I will continue to add information that will be helpful to anyone who has an outdoor space that will need something to make it more liveable.
I am looking into getting me a bench glider. I live alone and do not get that many guests at a time. Do these gliders come in sets or do you have to purchase each one individually?
The Oak rocker is my favourite because I like to have antiques. How much does the Oak Rocker cost?
The oak rocker is approximately $650. They are very well made. I would suggest having it on a covered area, to protect it from the outside elements.
I have seen the big double sided bench and table gliders a fair bit but have not seen many of the love seat or sofa gliders. The gliders you show would be more practical for most spaces and areas to have as extra seating.
The resin wicker glider is the one I like best that would be suited for my yard as I already have a round table and four chairs. My set is 16 years old and looks like brand new, so you are right about the longevity of how great these resin products are.
The gliders will make more sense in an area where you may want to move your seating around. If you have a swing with a stand or hanging from the ceiling, it is very difficult to move.
“Don’t go out and measure how wide she is, it will not turn out well for you.” -pure comedy gold! hahahah
The Eucalyptus Wood Love Seat Glider caught my eye – absolutely stunning glider. Now no offense John but this glider looks “younger” and more modern with it’s contrasting two-tone colors. The others while very beautiful, look more aged.
Do you recommend folks assmelbe these themselves or hire a handyman? I mean, are they pretty simple to assemble from a layman’s perspective?
I know being from Australia, Eucalyptus are very hardy trees and yes, we had two trees in our yard and 30 years later, thy’re stronger than ever.
The Eucalyptus Wood will age more slowly than the other woods. Regular Cedar or Treated will start to age as soon as it is cut. The Eucalyptus will look newer longer much like Redwood.
Most of the assembly is very easy, it will require simple tools. Only the people that are mechanically challenged will have any trouble.
I have always wanted a glider for our yard. The wicker one is so nice! I love wicker furniture. The wood ones look great too. Does the finish on he wood ones need to be redone periodically? I would imagine it is just like most other wooden outdoor things but thought I would ask.
The Oak wood will need a lot of care. A clear finish and occasional cleaning with a mild soap will make it last a long time. the Eucalyptus is much like Teak, it will age and not have to be refinished unless you have a spill on it and have to sand the stain away. It will last a lifetime.
If I had a choice on being either inside or out, I almost always choose outside. I like your article on the different type of outdoor furniture. It gives me a better sense of what to look for the next time I want to change my outdoor living space. The site it outdoorsy as well which entices people like me to stick around and read on.
I like being outdoors also, as you can see by my website. People are always updating their outdoor spaces just like the indoor space. Having any outdoor living space makes you feel like the home you own is so much bigger.
