Eucalyptus Wood Benches
The material that will make these Eucalyptus wood Benches will last as long as the Teak wood furniture. See my article here about Teak wood. I have chosen five different styles of benches to look at, very different and you will have to make a decision on what will work for your outdoor area.
What is Eucalyptus wood
First lets look at what Eucalyptus wood is and why do some people prefer it for their outdoor furniture.
Eucalyptus is a Hard wood that is in the Myrtle family-Rose Gum or Flooded Gum. It is more dense than Teak and just as strong and durable.
All of the Benches made in this article are made of wood from Tree Farms, not from natural forest vegetation. Native to Australia, Eucalyptus trees are now grown in many tropical areas around the world on Tree Farms.
The Strength and Density of the Eucalyptus Wood is very similar to Teak Wood. Both will last a lifetime if taken care of properly. Very little care is needed, just an occasional bath with a mild soap and water. Eucalyptus wood’s natural oils and tight grain prevent damage from rain, mold, and termites. Fading of the color is natural, you can keep the original color if you what to coat it with Teak Oil when it starts to fade to a unique silvery gray patina color.
Cushions are available for all of these benches, just not included. If you want to look at cushions see my article here for more details. Each of these benches will require some minor assembly and will have galvanized hardware.
How to take care of your Eucalyptus outdoor furniture
The hardwood of the Eucalyptus tree is very durable for outdoor furniture. Little care is needed to make it last a long time. First step is to clean up any stains that happen in daily life, to make sure any liquids do not soak into the wood.
When it comes time to refinish your wood, I would suggest every two years under normal use, clean with a mild bleach and brush to remove built up dirt and debris. Apply a coat of Linseed oil, Teak oil or any outdoor hardwood oil.
When winter or harsh weather comes, having a place to store your outdoor eucalyptus furniture out of the weather will make it last a lifetime. If you cannot bring inside for storage, get a quality outdoor furniture cover.

Very interesting article here. I really like how you have explained things where I could understand them, being that I’m not to knowledgeable about the different types of wood. These are some very beautiful pieces and I could definitely see them out on my deck.
These benches are a nice addition to any outdoor space. Once you purchase them, you will have very little upkeep and they will last a lifetime.
I like your website and I believe that I can learn a lot from this site, the ideas that you have here are good I am sure that your visitors will find this site to be very helpful. It s good to see how you can actually take these spaces and transform them. Bring a complete transformation.
Many outdoor spaces are not very well utilized by their owners. My site is for those who want to make their outdoor spaces into rooms that expand the living area around their home.
These benches look lovely. My favorite is the first one. I love multifunctionality.
Any ideas how I could make the storage space weather proof without too much hassle?
Only real way to make weather proof is to line the box and lid with a plastic material and have it removable. If you leave it in for any length of time it will hold moisture next to the wood and cause some damage. If it was me I would use a vacuum bag to store my stuff in the box and this will keep out the moisture without damage to the wood.
There is a Eucalyptus Tree farm not far from where I live. I’ve wondered what were some of the beneficial traits of this type of wood. Great site! I like how it’s laid out and easy to navigate. And very interesting.
California is one of the places that has the correct climate to grow these types of trees. I liek the idea that they do not harvest from natural forest, only from tree farms.
Love your site man. As it turns out I am sitting on an out door swing as we speak. It is built of oak and hung from the rafters of the porch. Quite a neat creation actually. It’s big enough for two people and would make an awesome love seat in the evenings and morning
I have a swing made out of pressure treated wood with a frame in my back yard. It is the one in the background on my site. They are a great place to site and relax after a long day and just drink one of your favorite beverages.
I can just Picture one of these benches under the Soursop tree in my backyard
Any of these eucalyptus benches would look good under a tree for a relaxing time reading a book or just sitting having a conversation with your favorite person.
Enjoyed reading your post, very informative. All of this furniture is very elegant looking. Don’t know if I would want to put it outside, but from what you have written it seems to be very easy to take care of and I would suppose here in Texas the winters are mild enough we could leave them outside. Of course, I would want to cover them when it rained. All the outdoor wood furniture I have bought does not seem to last very long. Maybe the hot summers down here? Will have to keep this in mind. Thanks for all the information.
This eucalyptus wood furniture will last quite well in the wet hot Texas weather. Just make sure it is sealed every two years. Getting a cover for it when you do not need it for a while will protect it and make cleaning easier.
I was fascinated with the concept of eucaluptus benches. Do they still give off their own fragrance?
And they must be very hardy and easy to maintain also? They are all so beautiful .
In peace and gratitude, ariel
They may have some fragrance if in an enclosed space. Outdoors the smell will be reduced. Clean the stains with a mild soap and water, reseal every two years and this Patio furniture will outlast the owners in some cases.
Thanks for such an informative article. The funny thing is this, I did not know that you could use the word ‘eucalyptus’ with anything else but essential oils…LOL. Very interesting to know that you can use the tree for more purposes. I wonder, do you know anything about its smell? Does it smell like its essential oil? That would be a double plus for me in this department, added to the fact that I just LOVE anything ‘wood’! Great read.
It will have the scent of eucalyptus, being outside will defuse the smell. Using an oil that has some scent when you refinish the surface will give you some scent. This wood will last for a lifetime if cared for properly.
